A Roman Gold and Onyx Cameo Ring of Apollo, ca 2nd century CE

the oval gem carved on two layers in high relief with a profile bust of Apollo, facing left, with almond-shaped eyes, a prominent nose and a slightly upturned mouth, his thick curly hair is adorned with a diadem. The stone features two natural colors, the upper surface carved to form the face is a creamy pale yellow, whereas the lower level background is skillfully portrayed in white, creating an elegant contrast.   Set in a high karat gold ring with high bezel. 

Condition:  Minor dents to the gold band that do not detract, intaglio and ring are otherwise intact and in excellent condition overall.
