A polychrome stucco sarcophagus fragment in raised relief featuring three registers, with floral motifs above a winged solar disk in the center, a solar disk below.  Vibrant original polychrome of yellow, white, green, red, blue, and black pigment that the Egyptians considered magical colors is preserved throughout and is typical of the painted sarcophagi found for the Theban nobility and royalty during the third Intermediate Period.

Dimensions: Fragment: 3 1/4 x 5 1/4 inches (8.2 x 13.3 cm), Frame: 7 x 8 1/4 inches (17.7 x 21 cm)

Condition: Fragmentary as described, with stabilized crack to the top right corner and excellent remaining polychrome.  Custom framed on maroon suede background. 

Provenance: Private Rhode Island collection, acquired from Christie's, London, October 5, 2000. Christie's sticker attached to the back of the frame.
