Amulets in the shape of parts of the human body or organs are characteristic of burials of the late Old Kingdom and First Intermediate Period, although a few had greater importance than others and continued to be made until the end of dynastic history. This rare and interesting amulet, in the shape of a foot, is well executed in dark serpentine. Pierced for suspension at the heel and inscribed on the base, it undoubtedly conferred dexterity and the power of manual activity.  Although sometimes found at the neck level of the deceased, such amulets were often combined with shells and worn as anklets.
